People For Parks Halton
We Need More Parks in Halton
Halton Region needs more park space.
Halton's population is expected to skyrocket over the next several decades.
But even now, as the pandemic has shown, we are struggling with too few parks for too many people.
Halton deserves reasonable growth served by sufficient parkland.
A Burlington quarry has offered to donate its land to create a park the size of Kelso, with a similar beach, but the mayor has rejected the offer outright. The local councillor has said Halton "doesn't need a big park." We want Regional council to vote "yes" to parks.

The Park Problem
Our parks are already packed
We've recently seen the capacity limits of our park systems -- and things are only going to get worse.
With our population set to explode by 2040, where will our children and their children play?
We need a plan for how Halton will meet the growing need for green space.

A Solution for Greenspace
An offer to create Burlington's largest park
A local quarry is volunteering to give its land to the public in phases over the next 30 years as it expands to create Burlington's largest park.
The Park would be nearly 1,000 acres, or almost exactly the size of Kelso. It would:
-
Be connected to Mt. Nemo Conservation area, and add five times the green space
-
It would connect to the Bruce Trail
-
It would be more than double the size of Burlington's 5 largest parks COMBINED

Mayor Opposes New Parks
Marianne Meed Ward says she won't consider the quarry's offer of a new park.
The local councillor has said there is no need for a big park in Burlington, and that it would be a liability for the city.
We disagree. We think we need more parks.
If you think so too, click below to let council know it needs to look at all available options to increase our green space.
